Our Theater:
Dog Story Theater – Our home base, a stellar blackbox theater right here near downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Check out their schedule, there are plenty of great non-Pop-Scholars events going down all the time. Or, if you're looking for a venue in which to perform, they are probably right up your alley.
Local Comedy:
River City Improv – Group of Calvin Alum who have been performing short-form improv in GR and around the country for 16 years. Dave and Mike also kick it with this crew.
Calvin Improv – Calvin College’s student improv team. A rotating cast of super cool kids doing shows on and off Calvin’s campus. The four Pop Scholars were all part of Calvin Improv at one time or another.
Mental Lipstick – You’ve heard of Little Women, smart women, working women, pretty women and weird women. But you haven’t heard of Mental Lipstick, Grand Rapids’s premier all-women improv troupe. They’re fabulous, funny, and a little irreverent.
The Belmont Transfer – Headquartered in Chicago, this wisecrackin’ group of vivacious young comedians has been making each other laugh since July, 2008. These international improv sensations have also taken their show on the road and played shows to packed houses in Raleigh, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Grand Rapids.
Gold Star – Hand-selected from a group of their peers, Gold Star has been performing together as an iO house team in Chicago for over a year. iO Chicago boasts graduates like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Chris Farley, Tim Meadows, Neil Flynn and all your favorites from SNL and MadTV.
Joe Anderson (The Comedy Project) – The Comedy Project is Joe Anderson’s comedy umbrella, where his multiple comedy ideas and projects can grow. Also, Joe’s a rad dude who can ride BMX like a champ.
Tanya Eby – A place for radio plays, strange blogs, and romantic comedies by Tanya Eby.
