Improvised Love Story Reboot

Ok… according to Hollywood, it has been WAY TOO LONG since our last eHarmony show, and it's time for a FULL BLOWN REBOOT.
We're scrapping the original stories, characters, lines of dialogue, scenarios, and suggestions for this show.
Call us crazy… call it improv.

Pop Scholars Presents: eHarmony – An Improvised Love Story.
Second weekend: June 10 and 11 at 9pm.
Pre-order tickets online, or come check us out at the door of Dog Story Theater.

An Improvised Love Story

May 23rd, 2011 - Dave

New season. New show.

It turns out that along with Spring comes twitterpation, and with twitterpation comes good ol' fashioned romance.
Well, we're in love with you (and we'll prove it with improv). Seriously, look up at our title banner!
Anyway, we cordially invite you to come see our new show for the season of love, with
Pop Scholars Presents: eHarmony – An Improvised Love Story.

First shows are this weekend, May 27 and 28 at 9pm.
Pre-order tickets online, or come check us out at the door of Dog Story Theater.

Oh, and by the way, we're 2 years old! Hurray! We made this poster to celebrate!

XOXO,
Pop Scholars

The Times We’ve Had

May 12th, 2011 - Dave

Oh, hello!

Well, this is embarrassing. It's been a while since we spoke last. Here's some stuff that's been happening!

1) We participated in Gilda's Club Laugh Fest at Dog Story Theater. We had a free show, there was a crazy line, and good money was raised for a great cause.

2) We did a mini tour of private shows, from House Parties to Wedding Showers to Scholarly Business Group Dinners (not kidding!). And we're always up for a good show, so remember to check out our "Hire Us" page here.

3) We took a month off of public shows in April to "find ourselves" after all that work. It turns out we were right here under our own noses.

4) We spent time in the lab, with a pen and a pad, trying to get a new longform up. Good news: we did! Bad news: there's no bad news! Look for our brand new longform announcement (and some posters to paper the town) shortly.

OH! I ALMOST FORGOT. We also have a SHOW TODAY. Yeah, it might be too late for you to come out to it, but miracles happen, yes they do. The show is for the Kalamzoo Improv Festival, and we're kicking off at 10pm tonight. You can check out their full schedule, and other information about Kalamzoo improv here.

Nature found a way.

See you there, squares.

Aaaahhh! Another Nightmare!

February 23rd, 2011 - Dave

Hey guys! We have our second show in the "Your Improvised Nightmare" series this weekend!
There's a poster in the previous post that elaborates on the concept!

February 25, 9pm, Dog Story Theater

Also, I did a google image search of "nightmares" and here is the first image I got.
I think it represents the plot forms that our improvised shows tend to take.
And by that, I mean GENIUS.

Look at how abstract it is!

Pop Scholars Presents: Your Improvised Nightmare

January 24th, 2011 - Dave

We've got a new set of shows coming up for our next season. I'm going to let our fresh-to-death poster do the talking:

So scary!

Ok, I lied. I'm going to talk, too.

SCARY, ISN'T IT??
Our new season has our patent pending mix of fool-proof short-form improv (Heavens, no!), and a brand-new longform designed to get into the subconscious mind of one of our audience members (scream worthy!).

Here are the frightening times and links for this month's nightmare:

Pop Scholars + Hot Tub

December 10th, 2010 - Dave

So, we've been pretty busy. Must be that time of year! So busy in fact, that we have a show TONIGHT and TOMORROW night and we're just now telling you about them!

Ok. We have a confession to make:
By pretty busy, we mean we were in a hot tub for a significant period of time.
Probably too long, by most medical professionals' standards. Here's what happened!

And before you say it, yeah, we made fun of babies at one point for not wanting late shows. Well, it turns out in the Winter, we're giant babies and we want our shows to happen at 9pm.

Deets!

Re: Pop Scholars World Domination Report

October 28th, 2010 - Dave

Dear secret boss,

Glad to hear you are doing well overseas with North Korea's Next Top Model and Say Yes to the Dress: Democratic Republic of the Congo Edition.

Things are going well in Grand Rapids with our cultural influence project. We've expanded our Pop Scholars performances to full weekend shows at Dog Story Theater and the comedy output has been consistently growing. Best of all, very few native Michiganders seem to suspect our true intentions thus far.

As per your request, we have added new shows for the following dates:

November 5, 10pm, Dog Story Theater

November 6, 10pm, Dog Story Theater

Of course, we're charging $5 as always, since your supplementary income allows us to practically give away our comedy. And, in case you're in the area, we would be honored if you came to watch the show. Ordering tickets online, here, is probably the best way to ensure you get a seat (and go undetected by civilians).

Hope to hear from you soon, and we look forward to discussing the results from Project: Electioneering with you.

Love,

Pop Scholars

Full Weekend Encore (and new, grown-up curtain time)

October 6th, 2010 - Dave

Whoa! We sold out our first full weekend at Dog Story Theater's new location on 7 Jefferson (here).
I guess we'll do it all again!

But let's switch it up a bit, and start at 10pm.

Yeah, that's right, 10pm. What, is that too late for you? Are you too sleepy for improv? Do you need your pacifier?

Oh… you do?
Fine. Well, I guess we'll just have to perform for everyone who's not a big baby this weekend.

Check us out, October 8 and 9, at 10pm.
Tickets available here. If you're not a BIG BABY.

Full Weekend at Dog Story’s New Location

September 4th, 2010 - Dave

What's better than a new Pop Scholars show?
How about two new Pop Scholars shows- at a new location, no less.

Dog Story Theater has moved to 7 Jefferson Avenue (West side of Jefferson near Fulton), and we're helping them break in their new space with a full weekend of shows.

Come be one of the first to check out the new space.

September 10 and 11. 9:30pm.

Tickets available here.

Summer Summary

July 14th, 2010 - Dave

Well, we're all back in town from our respective summer vacations.
We can't think of anything better to do on Friday than to put on a show!
…a show for you!
NO, it's not because we're bored.

It's because you're bored.
You're welcome.

Boredly,
Pop Scholars
